Ultrasonic non-contact transit time water flow meter
The transit time type non-contact ultrasonic water flow meter is a non-invasive flow meter. The clamp-on transducer arrangements can detect in-situ flow rates from outside the pipework, without any interruption to flow or process.
Principle
As an ultrasonic beam travels through a liquid, the flow causes a slight change in its propagation time, directly proportional to the liquid’s velocity. At zero flow, the time for two sensors to emit and receive sound waves is identical, enabling precise measurement of no flow. As the liquid moves, sound waves take longer to travel upstream than downstream, allowing accurate determination of flow rate. The relationship conforms to the following expression:

Among them,
θ is the angle between the sound beam and the direction of liquid flow
M is the number of straight line propagation times of the sound beam in the liquid
D is the inner diameter of the pipeline
Tup is the propagation time of the sound beam in the positive direction
Tdown is the propagation time of the sound beam in the opposite direction, ΔT=Tup – Tdown
